If you’re looking for something to read whilst in Yangshuo there are lots of possibilities. Many Yangshuo hotels have book and magazine collections that they will happily lend or exchange for other books. At the Yangshuo Mountain Retreat we have a book and magazine collection in our lounge area where you can relax and read in peace or take a book outside and read on the grassy banks of the Yu Long River. A perfect way to unwind and appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.

If you would like to buy a book or magazine or just trade one in Yangshuo town then the following possibilities are available.

Books
One café specializes in book trading in Yangshuo. They are located on Chengzhong Lu and are called Café Too. They have a fair range of books in most of the world’s major languages. They have a small café as well so you can sit down relax and have a good read. Please see the map of Yangshuo for the location.

Magazines
Magazines can be bought from street vendors. Most are in Chinese but some including China Today is in English. Please see the Yangshuo map for location.

Unlike towns in Thailand, which were also popularized first by backpackers, Yangshuo has surprisingly few foreign language book shops, and even fewer places to buy English language magazines. The Yangshuo Mountain Retreat recommends bringing your own or borrowing fro mour magazine lending library.

While staying at the Yangshuo Mountain Retreat, there may be days where you’d like to sit out front of our Yangshuo hotel by the banks of the Yulong River and read a book or magazine. If you didn’t bring one, the Yangshuo Mountain Retreat has a big collection of magazines from our owner and past guests. For Yangshuo bookstores, there are a few places listed above.
